Locating Embedded Audio Files in PDFs

Dealing with pesky government debt In law, we’re frequently dealing with ordering and reviewing courtroom audio. In Ontario, the form that we tend to take delivery of those recordings is in PDF files with embedded audio. Of course, like all government technology, the form that it’s delivered in is incredibly antiquated and difficult to access, unless you happen to use exactly the same operating systems and programs as the government....

Baptists & Bootleggers

Keeping an eye on the broader game I was listening to Lex Fridman’s interview of Marc Andreesen, which was jam-packed with interesting discussion, and I picked up a new phrase for me: “Baptists and Bootleggers”. Why Regulation Is Hard

My New Obsession is AI Regulation There’s starting to be A LOT of talk about regulating AI, and rightfully so. This open letter to halt AI development has been signed by 1124 people at the time I opened it, and includes some people you may have heard of like Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak, Yuval Noah Harari, Andrew Yang, and one of the godfathers of modern AI Yoshua Bengio. We can debate until the cows come home the real motivations behind some of those people choosing to sign, but I completely agree with the sentiment....

What people don't get about case law, and the coming storm of AI regulation/litigation

What the public doesn’t get about case law ‘So I’ve found a few cases you might want to look at…’ I was catching up with a couple of law buddies last night - both very smart guys, both from corporate law. They hate, and have very successfully avoided, reading or caring about case law for essentially their entire legal careers, but sometimes they’ll ask me questions about the litigation-side of things....
