Using Machine-Learning to Learn about Machine-Learning

I’m no machine learning engineer Duh. I’ve spent long enough reading about and experimenting with machine learning now that I guess I understand the basics more than most, but obviously I have no formal training or professional experience, so obviously take everything I have to say here with massive, Milton-sized grains of salt. Since getting access to ChatGPT, I find I can learn about ML way, way faster though, and I’m really enjoying it....

Sam Altman is right I was watching this interview with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and one thing he said has really stuck with me: the real point of generative AI and large language models like ChatGPT is the democratization of knowledge. The way he explained it was, when asked something to the effect of what excited him most/what he thought was most important about an innovation like ChatGPT, he answered that he thinks it would be amazing to have the world’s greatest and most knowledgeable tutor in everyone’s pocket....

My New Obsession is AI Regulation There’s starting to be A LOT of talk about regulating AI, and rightfully so. This open letter to halt AI development has been signed by 1124 people at the time I opened it, and includes some people you may have heard of like Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak, Yuval Noah Harari, Andrew Yang, and one of the godfathers of modern AI Yoshua Bengio. We can debate until the cows come home the real motivations behind some of those people choosing to sign, but I completely agree with the sentiment....

Several days later, and some random thoughts

Went to Chicago, had a GREAT time. Best trip I’ve ever taken. Just me and my wife getting a chance to reconnect on our own. No schedules, no pressures. Amazing. Chicago remains my favourite American city. So much to do, awesome food. Second City mainstage was unbelievable. Saw the Tedeschi Trucks band at the Chicago Theater, really cool. It’s basically a cooler Toronto. More importantly…relaxed for a minute. Haven’t done that in a long time....
